Unauthorized Password Changes / Account Takeover

Employee Theft / Internal FraudSkill: Intermediate (requires employee access)

How it works

A promotional staff employee with system access spots guests who visit infrequently but have large credit or free play balances. The employee recruits an accomplice who visits the club desk claiming they forgot their password and need a new card. The corrupt employee bypasses the required ID check and issues a new card/password. The accomplice then downloads the victim’s credits and cashes out. Complaints about missing credits often come much later, by which time evidence is difficult to gather.

Where it appears

Player loyalty program desks and promotional staff terminals.

On the record

At Pechanga Resort Casino, a sharp security manager spotted a pattern of password changes issued to customers in exact alphabetical order off the master player list – a clear sign of systematic abuse. The perpetrator was caught.
